What weight of airsoft bullets should I choose?

We remember when you first bought an airsoft gun and had absolutely no idea what pellets to choose for it. Will light ones be enough, or should you use heavier ones? How will that affect range? Accuracy? And what if we make the wrong choice? If you are currently dealing with similar questions, you have come to the right place.

In this article, we will explain to you in a simple and understandable way what weight of pellets is ideal for you, whether you are a beginner or an experienced player.

Basic division by weight

Airsoft BBS most often range in weight from 0.12 g to 0.85 g, with each weight having its own specific use:

  • 0.12 g – Very light ammunition suitable only for weaker manual pistols and low-power electric weapons. Due to their low weight, they are prone to deviations in flight, especially in windy weather.
  • 0.20 g – Standard choice for beginners and medium-power electric weapons with a muzzle velocity of around 100 m/s. They will provide you with a reasonable compromise between range and accuracy.
  • 0.23 g – 0.25 g – The most commonly used pellets for most electric rifles (AEG) with a higher muzzle velocity. They will bring you better stability and shooting accuracy compared to lighter variants.
  • 0.28 g – 0.30 g – Ideal for advanced players with more powerful weapons, especially for self-loading and sniper rifles. Due to their higher weight, they are better resistant to external influences and have a more stable flight path.
  • 0.36 g and more – Designed primarily for sniper rifles with a high muzzle velocity or for electric or gas weapons. These pellets will provide you with maximum accuracy even at long distances.

How to choose the right weight?

When choosing the weight of the pellets, consider the muzzle velocity of your weapon and the style of play you play. In general:

  • The higher the muzzle velocity (m/s), the heavier the pellets you can afford.
  • For fast and dynamic play at shorter distances, lighter pellets are better.
  • For sniper and precise shooting at long distances, heavier pellets are necessary.

Quality and material of the pellets

In addition to weight, the quality and material of the pellets also play an important role. Low-quality pellets can contain microscopic irregularities that impair shooting accuracy and can damage the internal mechanism of the weapon. Therefore, always choose pellets with precise processing and a smooth surface. If you are an environmentally conscious player, biodegradable pellets are also available on the market, which will decompose in nature over time.

Tip from Armymarket

Before buying, always consider the performance of your weapon, your playing style and the environment in which you will play. By using high-quality and appropriately selected pellets, you will increase your shooting efficiency and extend the life of your weapon.
