Airsoft in winter - how to play it and how to equip yourself?

Airsoft is a popular pastime especially during spring, summer and autumn. But is it possible to play airsoft even in winter? Definitely! However, playing in the cold and snow has its own specifics. With the arrival of spring, we have written a recap for you of all the points that are good to take into account when playing in cold weather, so that you are completely prepared for everything in the fall!

Playing airsoft in the winter can be just as fun as it is challenging. Even though it's a little colder than you'd imagine outside in the winter, playing in the winter has its benefits. For example, there are usually fewer people playing, which in practice means you have more room to move around and less distractions to contend with.

Check your equipment

To play in the winter, you need the right equipment. The key is to dress in several lighter layers – this allows you to regulate your body temperature and stay warm throughout the day without sweating or freezing. A good base layer is essential to wick moisture away from your skin and help you stay dry. You'll also need a good middle layer, such as a fleece or softshell jacket, to provide insulation. And don't forget good gloves and a hat to keep your head and hands warm.

When it comes to airsoft guns, make sure your model is suitable for colder temperatures. Some guns can have performance issues in colder weather, so be sure to test your gun before you head out to play. Even BBS can be a problem. And don't play at all in temperatures below minus ten degrees - manufacturers warn of risks such as damage or cracking of the mechanism. And you certainly don't want that.

Different conditions = different strategy

Once you've got your equipment sorted, it's time to get out and play. Keep in mind that cooler temperatures can affect the entire game, so be prepared to adjust your strategy accordingly. You are likely to move more slowly and economically to avoid slipping on ice or snow. Frost causes materials to become brittle, so watch out for falling weapons as well.

Due to the brittleness of the materials, we recommend choosing softer hop up rubber bands with a maximum hardness of 50°. Shoot single shots rather than bursts, prepare a spare battery because the flashlight will drain faster, and forget about gas pistols, which basically do not work in the cold. On the contrary, the most reliable weapon will be manual.

Playing airsoft in the winter can be great fun. It's a wonderful way to push your limits and test your skills in new conditions. So don't stay at home - accept the challenge and go to the battlefield!
