How to clean an airgun?

The airgun is a popular weapon for sport shooting and recreational use. However, in order for it to serve for many years and perform optimally, it is necessary to give it regular care. In this article, we'll take a step-by-step look at how to properly clean and maintain your airgun so you can enjoy accurate and safe shooting.

Barrel cleaning

The main part of an airgun that needs to be cleaned regularly is the barrel. Dirt and grease that can accumulate inside the barrel negatively affect shooting accuracy. Use a quality wiper with a suitable cleaning agent. Proceed by repeatedly pulling the wiper barrel from the chamber towards the mouth. After a few strokes, use a dry cloth to remove the remaining detergent. Repeat this process until the barrel is completely clean.

Seal inspection

The seal guarantees you optimal air pressure inside the airgun. During regular inspections, check the gasket for cracks, wear or other damage. If you find any irregularities, replace the gasket immediately.

Cleaning and lubrication of the mechanics

The mechanical parts of the airgun, such as springs, pistons, and the trigger mechanism, also require regular maintenance. First, make sure the airgun is empty and securely locked. Use compressed air from the compressor to remove dust and dirt and clean with a soft brush. Then apply a thin layer of special oil to the metal parts to reduce friction and wear. Be careful not to use too much oil, which will trap more dirt.

Treatment of wooden parts

The wooden parts of the airgun, such as the stock, are also prone to wear and tear. Wipe them regularly with a soft cloth to remove dust and sweat. To maintain the shine and protect the wood, you can use special waxes or oils designed for wood. Apply them with a soft cloth and spread evenly over the surface. The wood will thus be protected from moisture and mechanical damage.

Tips for safe airgun cleaning

When cleaning an airgun, it is important to follow several basic safety rules. Always make sure the airgun is empty and secured before starting any maintenance. Use suitable cleaning agents and tools that will not damage the material and mechanics. Work in a well-ventilated area and protect your hands with gloves, especially when handling cleaning agents and oils. And finally, never leave the airgun unattended during cleaning to avoid an accident.
