What to take with you to an airsoft event

Does your first airsoft event await you and you don’t know what to prepare? Don’t worry, we know what you will need to get the most out of your game while staying comfortable and safe.

A suitable weapon

You can’t go without a weapon. Buying a high-quality airsoft gun is quite expensive, so choose carefully. If you only have a one-off action, it is better to borrow a high-quality gun than to buy the cheapest possible handgun and get nothing out of the game due to low power and slow reloading.

If you plan to play airsoft regularly, you can go for a cheaper manual shotgun or an automatic electric gun (AEG), which is the choice of the largest number of airsoft players. You can buy a solid weapon from 2,500 CZK.

Sufficient supply of ammunition

A high-quality weapon includes high-quality ammunition. Airsoft balls are usually 6 to 8 mm in size, so they are similar to real ammunition in conventional weapons. The weight of the balls is also an important parameter, and ranges from 0.12 to 0.90 g. When choosing ammunition, not only the type of weapon and its caliber play a role, but also the material of the ammunition and the knowledge that the heavier the ball, the more painful the impact.

Some places require you to use BIO balls, which decompose naturally. If you can, choose them at every opportunity. One discarded pack of classic plastic balls is equivalent to 25 PET bottles being thrown away in nature. In addition to plastic and eco-materials, metal or lighting versions are also available.

If you don’t know which balls to buy, you can order a trial pack and try out several versions before deciding.

Eye protection

Airsoft usually poses no risk of serious injury, but this only applies if you sufficiently protect yourself from being hit, especially in the eye area. Contact of a ball with the human eye at high speed would have really unpleasant consequences, so always pay attention to eye protection, and never take your glasses off during the game. If it is a one-time thing and it is not possible to borrow any glasses, you can use certified safety glasses, if you play more often, you can invest and buy, for example, tactical glasses that do not fog up and have a special scratch resistant layer.

Clothes and boots

If you plan to devote yourself to airsoft for a long time, it pays to invest in durable and comfortable military clothing. Otherwise, any dark clothing and a reflective vest are sufficient. The stronger the clothing you choose, the less you will be hurt if you get shot. Boots should be durable enough to protect you when you step on a nail in an abandoned building, for example, while keeping you dry and warm in cold and wet weather. Don’t underestimate the choice of socks either and take a spare pair with you just in case.

Other equipment

In addition to the above, you will also appreciate several accessories, such as a spare weapon, a speed loader, a tactical vest, and a backpack, if you are going on a multi-day event, a flashlight, a wristwatch, and a compass. Don’t forget to have your mobile phone with you, especially if you’re playing in unfamiliar terrain.
